Thorn re-debuted on WWE television using his ECW Vampire gimmick, attacking newly-crowned Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel, by putting Axel through an announce table. Thorn continued by stating he would "bring down the establishment."
Thorn made an appearance on the October 11th edition of Smackdown, assaulting Kane after his victory over Justin Gabriel. Post-assault, it was announced that Thorn and Kane would be fighting at Survivor Series in a "Battle of the Cursed" Ring of Fire match.
